My sustained investigation focuses on working people in Bangladesh. Early in my investigation, I struggled to portray the stories of each worker from different occupations. At first, I painted several worksites with no workers. In that loneliness, I began to implement the presence of people. After spending some years in Bangladesh, I came in contact with these workers. As I drew each of the figures, I reflected on my interaction with them. Each of my pieces contains circles behind the figures representing a spotlight. The spotlight showcases each of the figures and draws attention to them. By using negative space, I was able to portray loneliness. The red disc in the Bangladesh flag represents the sun rising over Bengal, and also the blood of those who died for the independence of Bangladesh. Throughout the years we have forgotten what the working people have done to help grow the economy. So, I wanted to represent the idea that despite our journey being individual, we all come together at the end.
